Bio

     Marilee Hanemann was born in New Orleans in 1975.  Daughter of an artist, she began with a childhood interest in art.  She attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (arts high school attended by Wynton Marsalis among others) where she became serious about the visual arts. She received a BA from Sarah Lawrence College with interests in art and architectural history, studio art, poetry among other subjects and attended Cornell University’s undergraduate Art, Arch, and Planning School as a painting major for three semesters.  While working in several of New Orleans local businesses, she began a series of landscape paintings depicting public parks such as Audubon, City Park, and Jean Lafitte State Park.  She started to exhibit work to the public and sell her paintings and then she moved with her 2 1/2 year old daughter and spouse to Los Angeles in 2009.  The family moved again to Phoenix, Az, Danville, PA, and finally to Charleston WV where she resides with her daughter.  Marilee maintains an art studio there, and has studied ceramics at a pottery studio under tutelage of a local potter.  She continues to develop her skill in wheel-based pottery and sculpture and is currently developing a new series of abstracts in gouache on wood panels.  She continues development of landscape painting based on scenes in the local nature preserves including Kanawha State Park.
